Subtitling Subtitles to watch without sound and to reach more languages
Context A European project, with partners and audiences from several countries
The challenge

A European meeting has a lot happening at once

Problem

Covering an event is easy to do badly. You film everything, cut little, and end up with a long record no one watches again.

Decision

We chose the message before we chose the shots. The piece shows what the audience needs to take away, and leaves the rest to the report.

The piece

Inside the video

The client wanted to capture the Riga meeting and its takeaways, for several countries.
Testimonials from participants, subtitled to watch without sound.
The people at the meeting, from several European regions.

The production decisions

Why always subtitle

Most institutional video is watched without sound, on phones and in feeds. Without subtitles, the message doesn't land. And on a European project, subtitles are also the door to other languages.

How to film an event without it getting dull

By filming people in conversation, not empty rooms. Gesture and reaction give the piece a rhythm that cutaways alone would not have.
