Basic SEO to get your site on Google

Concrete, jargon-free steps to help Google find, understand and show your site to the people searching.

SEO sounds complicated, but the basics are simple: help Google understand your site and show it to people searching for what you offer. You don’t need tricks, you need to do the essentials well. Here’s where to start.

Tell Google what each page is about

Every page needs a clear title and a description that sums up the content. Use the words people type when they look for your service, not your company’s internal terms. A title like “Web design studio in Lisbon” works better than a brand name on its own.

Write for people, with structure

Useful, organised content is half the battle. Break the text into sections with subheadings, answer the real questions your clients have and avoid empty pages. Google rewards those who answer the searcher’s intent well, not those who stuff the page with repeated words.

Sort out speed and mobile

A slow site, or one that works badly on a phone, sinks in the results. Most searches happen on mobile, so your site has to load fast and read well on a small screen. This helps SEO and, at the same time, makes more people stay.
