How to prepare the perfect brief before commissioning a site
A good brief saves time and money. We show you what to gather before requesting a site so the project goes right the first time.
Before any quote, one document decides half the project’s success: the brief. It’s where you explain what you want, for whom, and why. The clearer it is, the fewer detours the site takes, and the less it costs.
What a brief is
A brief is your project summarised in writing. It doesn’t have to be pretty or technical. It has to say the essentials so the people building it aren’t left guessing. A good brief avoids extra meetings and versions that weren’t what you wanted.
What it should include
Gather these answers before you contact us:
- The site’s goal. Sell, generate leads, show work, inform?
- Who your audience is and what they need to find quickly.
- What sets you apart from the competition, in your own words.
- Examples of sites you like, and what you like about each.
- What content you already have, text, photos, logo, and what’s missing.
- Rough deadline and budget, even if it’s just a vague idea.
A common mistake
Don’t only say how you want it to look. Say what you want it to do. “I want more quote requests” helps us far more than “I want a modern site”. The look is a consequence of the goal.
