5 mistakes that kill a video on social media

The most common slip-ups that make a video go unnoticed, and how to avoid them.

A good video can die in the first few seconds over simple details. Here are five mistakes we see all the time in our work, and how to fix them.

1. Starting slow

On social, the first two seconds decide everything. If your video starts with an intro, a logo or a pause, you’ve lost half the audience. Get straight into the action.

2. Forgetting sound on mobile

Most people watch on their phone, often with the sound off. Captions aren’t optional, they’re mandatory. And when there is sound, it has to be balanced.

3. Wrong format

A horizontal video in a vertical feed wastes 60% of the screen. Match the format to the platform: vertical for Reels, Shorts and TikTok.

4. Too many cuts (or too few)

Rhythm is everything. Too many cuts tire; too few bore. Every shot has to earn its place.

5. No call to action

The video grabbed them, now what? Tell people what to do next: follow, comment, visit. Without it, the attention evaporates.
